Yankees Baseball Hat Cake

Posted on: September 25, 2007

Another SweetElement cake made … but never posted!  The actual cake was a yellow cake filled and frosted with hazelnut buttercream and decorated in fondant.  Now I can finally rest easy in Yankees territory as I’ve made both a Red Sox and a Yankees hat (not to mention Mr. Met)!

The birthday boy’s softball number is 23 … so this was a
small personalized touch to make the hat just for him!

Great cake! Fabulous work. (Love the Yankees.)

Now, this is Lou’s kind of cake! Practice up – I’ll be getting one of these for him sooner or later! Awesome!

Hi there — I was thinking of making this cake for a baseball end of season party on Saturday. How many did this feed?

Could you upload the Met’s hat? My daughter wants one for her
groom’s cake.
Thanks you

How did you get the rights to have that NY on the hat? We want this for our grooms cake and our bakery in Maine is telling us they can’t put the NY on the cake w/ out the rights….I have email the yankees to see if we can get the rights. If you know of anything that we can do please advise! Your cake is awesome!!

Monica,
The reason your bakery can’t use a trademarked/copyrighted logo is because there is a copyright infringement law that essentially says no one can recreate a replica of a tm’d or cr’d image for resale to the public without written consent from the owner. That’s why you don’t even see grocery store bakeries sell cakes with hand-iced images of Disney characters etc. They use the cake as a setting and put the Deco plastic figures on the cake.

Your bakery is following the rules, and I commend them for that even though it’s causing you a bit of anxiety. If they recreate and sell the Yankees logo, and they’re caught, they could be fined heavily. Hope this at least sheds some light on their decision.

Wow this looks great! How didyou make this?

Cake & fondant … it’s amazing what you can do with simple raw materials!
